Good lighting transforms the way a kitchen looks and functions. Layering three types of light, ambient, task and accent, creates a space that's beautiful, practical and always feels right.
The three layers of kitchen lighting
01 Ambient Light
The general glow
Sets the overall mood and provides comfortable light throughout the space.
Think pendants, wall lights or discreet ceiling fittings.
02 Task Light
For doing
Illuminates where you prepare, cook and clean. This is the most important layer in a kitchen.
Use downlights or linear lighting to wash the work surfaces, not the cabinets.
03 Accent Light
For atmosphere
Highlights architectural details, adds depth and brings warmth.
Consider shelf lighting, in-cabinet lights or feature pendants.

03 Working Run
Discreet downlights positioned towards the front edge of the worktop. Space evenly for balanced, shadow-free light.
Design Notes

Downlights aren't one-size-fits-all, place them with purpose.
Think in layers.

Dimming is key.
Use dimmers on all layers to adapt the mood throughout the day.
Warmth matters.
Choose warm white light (2700K–3000K) for a welcoming feel.
